Web Usage Mining by Neural Hybrid Prediction with Markov Chain Components

This paper presents and evaluates a two-level web usage prediction technique, consisting of a neural network in the first level and contextual component predictors in the second level. We used Markov chains of different orders as contextual predictors to anticipate the next web access based on specific web access history. The role of the neural network is to decide, based on previous behaviour, whose predictor’s output to use. The predicted web resources are then prefetched into the cache of the browser. The MuPix Telescope is a particle tracking telescope, optimized for tracking low momentum particles and high rates. It is based on the novel High-Voltage Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (HV-MAPS), designed for the Mu3e tracking detector. The telescope represents a first application of the HV-MAPS technology and also serves as test bed of the Mu3e readout chain. The telescope consists of up to eight layers of the newest prototypes, the MuPix7 sensors, which send data self-triggered via fast serial links to FPGAs, where the data is time-ordered and sent to the PC. We empirically tested the assumption that study time increases recognition accuracy because the storage of information is better when study time is longer as Shiffrin and colleagues have reported, an assumption common to parallel models of recognition. In the present study with 123 subjects, we examined the effect of item strength on four measures: hit rate, false alarm rate, d′, and β, for a single-word recognition task with longer study times than those usually used in the literature.
